Medication

My old psychiatrist said to me that once I was in a protective relationship we could consider reducing my medication.  I do want to reduce them one day but at the same time I am quite scared.  I have had a brilliant 6 months, probably one of the best times of my life.  I don't want it to end and I don't want Mr R to be put under any pressure or stress if I become sick.  Neither can I afford to be sick from a work point of view.  I am on 3-4 months check ups with my GP at the moment, I may raise it with her next time I visit.

I think that reducing medication may be a good thing. It is so good to know you have been in a good place so if you start to decrease slowly then who knows where you could be in another 6 months. I am rooting for you!

I agree with In the Pink. Reducing gradually isn't such a bad idea. I do understand how you feel though. I also fear the day when I have to get off the meds. Good luck to you.Simon

I kind of feel if it isn't broke don't fix it. If you are doing well on the medications and not experiencing any horrible side effects why would you want to change it?

Great website and blog!

I dont think you should reduce your medication. Always remember that some people have to take medications their whole life. Just like someone who has diabates, we need our antidepressants :p

hey, i am on your blog by coincidence. but one I must say, reducing drugs is the best way to end this. but... on the end, when the dose is small, and the time come to end this you will face fear. you will know when it comes, and when it comes you will be thinking clear, you will chose, take the dose or not to take. its up to you.

But I didn't take that last one dose and I am fine now. I wont be lie to you, it wont be easy, but in the end its all about the fear.

sorry for my English. hope you will be fine and strong. i'll check your blog to make sure you are ok.

Reducing medication amounts is always a good idea if the current medication your using is not working. Hope that works for you. Here is my blog by the way, I also suffer with social anxiety disorder:

Hi, I agree with the if it isn't broke don't fix it philosophy. I'm bipolar and went through a very long depressive phase before my doctor increased my anti-depressants, now I`m much better which isn't a problem I want to fix! A friend of mine who'd been depression free for 15 years went off his meds and shortly after nearly succeeded in killing himself. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you do it under close medical supervision.
