Trip to the Psychiatrist

Yesterday I had my 6 month check up with my psychiatrist. He has suggested that I change my seroquel medication to abilify. This may help me loose weight and is not such a strong sedative. There is a possibility of a side effect of stiffness or jerky movements which sounds very scary. I am sleeping so much I am struggling to put my hours in at work so I have to change something. My weight is also bordering on obese. I am waiting for his written letter and advise before I mke my final decision.

I have a family member that takes medication for depression. He is currently trying out some new meds. May I ask you, does it typically take awhile for you to notice the results of the changes you've made to your meds?

Hi Tina,

Yes, It normally takes 2-3 weeks for most odthe anti depressants to work (SSRIs). Also stopping them suddenly can make you feel awful too. My sister started Prozac a few months ago and it took her several weeks before she felt better.

I will have to start taking small doses of abilify until it is well into my system before I reduce the seroqol.
